CES 2012: Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook

Acer’s contribution to the upcoming deluge of Ivy Bridge based Ultrabooks is the Aspire S5 that was announced ahead of the company’s press conference at this year’s CES. Acer is currently sticking out of the crowd by offering the slimmest packaging measuring just 15mm.

Combined the use of SSD for storage and its proprietary Instant On technology lets the Aspire S5 can wake up from sleep state in 1.5 seconds. The machine will feature a now obligatory Thunderbolt I/O port which is poised to become a standard feature with Ivy Bridge based motherboards. In addition, it will have USB 3.0 and HDMI ports. For audio playback the Aspire S5 will use Dolby Home Theater processor and the battery pack that will use PowerSmart technology that increases its lifecycle. Like all other Ivy Bridge based Ultrabook, the Aspire S5 is scheduled to release sometime after May 2012.
